Hemp and marijuana are different species of Cannabis plants.

-Hemp is often used in industry because of its strength as a textile: i.e. rope, clothes etc.

-Marijuana has a higher concentration of THC, the molecule that gets you high (among other things), and requires delicate care to grow.

Why is it so confusing?

-Hemp and Marijuana have been lumped together for decades as illegal substances. Because of lack of understanding, all Cannabis plants were grouped together and outlawed in the 70's which meant hemp could not be grown legally, despite its safety.

The compounds most prominent in each type of Cannabis differ greatly

-The Cannabinoids (compounds) most people have heard of are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD)

-Hemp is rich in CBD, shown to be anti-inflammatory,analgesic and anti-anxiety. You can't get high from Hemp because the amount of THC is less than half a percent.

-Marijuana is rich in THC which gives you the high and can also help with pain. THC has been known to cause anxiety in people instead of reducing it.
