In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it is believed that when your energy or "qi" and internal temperature is imbalanced, it can cause diease and illness. There are many different warming (yang), cooling (yin), and (neutral) foods. By knowing which foods heat and cool your body, you can start to balance your own energy (qi) from the inside out. But how? Warming foods can help improve your circulation and improve the function of your organs. Cooling foods can help calm the blood and clear toxins in the body. As you may know, there is nothing wrong with being hot or cold. But, when is your body telling you that you are too hot or too cold? If you have too much heat in your body, you may feel really hot, but you may also experience these signs as well: anxiety, red eyes, rapid heartbeat, dark urine, constipation, headaches, heartburn, and vivid dreams. If have too much coldness in your body, you may feel tired, sore/stiff joints, stomach pains after eating or drinking cold food & beverages, and extreme coldness in your hands and feet. During the summer heat, if you start to experience any of the hot signs, try incoporating some these cooling foods to your diet and start balancing your qi from the inside! |
