Congratulations, Frank, on winning first place in the Vivo International Music Competition!

 

Frank had the incredible opportunity to perform at the Winner's Recital at Kaufman Music Center in New York City. 

 

Violin Masterclass on Saturday, May 11th

We are excited to have our annual violin masterclass led by the renowned violinist, Elizabeth Chang. The masterclass is a perfect opportunity for our students to learn from one of the best in the field and will be held at the school this Saturday, May 11th.

 

The entire masterclass will be recorded and the video will be made available shortly after the masterclass.

About Elizabeth Chang

 

Elizabeth Chang, violinist, enjoys a multi-faceted career as performer, teacher, and arts administrator. Her performing career has taken her to more than twenty countries and her chamber music appearances have included collaborations with many of today's leading artists. She is currently professor of violin at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a member of the violin and viola faculties of the Pre-College Division of the Juilliard School, and Artistic Director of Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival.

Listening Challenge - May

The challenge for the month of May is "Delve into music from the classical period (1750-1820)." 

 

How to Participate in the Monthly Listening Challenge:

  1. Pick up a listening information sheet from your teacher.
  2. Listen to/watch the music that fits the month's criteria.
  3. Fill out the listening information sheet.
  4. Submit the completed sheet to your teacher.
  5. We'll tally who completes each month's criteria at the end of the school year!

If you haven't started the listening challenge yet, you can still join! Here is the criteria we've had since the beginning of the school year:

  • September: Any Mozart composition
  • October: Classical artist
    • Violin (Janine Jansen, Ray Chen, Itzhak Perlman)
    • Piano (Martha Argerich, Evgeny Kissin, Yuka Wang)
  • November: A concerto composed for your instrument
  • December: Holiday recording (Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite,
    Handel’s Messiah, Corelli’s Christmas Concerto)
  • January: Chamber music 
  • February: Sound Track from a Film or Musical Score
  • March: Experience a symphony composed in the 1800s.
  • April: Journey back to the Baroque period (1600-1750) with any music composition.
 

Year End Concert on June 14th, Friday 

Our year-end concert is approaching swiftly! Join us at Montclair State University on June 14th at 6 PM.
