A lot of people have preconceived notions about meditation, how the practice should look and what you should achieve from it, this tends to make it difficult for people to start as they already feel as if it is so out of reach for them. However, most of these are wrong, take a look at a few below.You Must Sit Cross Legged Bolt Upright. Relaxing into a comfortable posture is completely fine for most meditations just keep in mind that it may be easier to stay awake in an upright position. There is actually a type of meditation called Yoga Nidra that is designed to be performed lying down.You Must Not Think About Anything Else. Thoughts will never permanently stop happening and there is nothing wrong with that. The goal of meditation is not to completely empty your mind but to be aware of your thoughts and be able to point your mind back to your focus, whether that is your breath, the voice that is guiding you or a mantra. As you learn to do this you will find that your thoughts will start to slow.It Must Be Dead Quiet. Is it easier to practice meditation in total silence, yes more than likely, is it a deal-breaker, no. Sounds can be seen as an opportunity to build awareness and mental strength. Notice the sounds and again try and find your focus point, whatever that may be.The Goal Is To Reach A Higher Consciousness As you learn to start to focus on your breath, there is a corresponding reaction that tends to calm the nervous system which feels great.
