3 EASY Ways to DROP into the GIFT of the MOMENT
I think if we are all honest, we are not present very much of the time. I think it is a VERY small percentage of my day and I have been doing yoga for nearly 30 years and meditation twice daily for most of that time as well. Yet my brain still bounces all over the place in any given moment! There is NO mistake that when we are present, giving what is happening RIGHT NOW our undivided attention....life is a GIFT. (hence the clever photo :) A lot of presence comes down to FOCUS. Yet, how can we be expected to FOUCS on much of anything for very long when our attention is pulled in by SO MANY DIrections? Facebook, Instagram, email, texting and the constant binging and bonging of our cell phones. Along with KIDS or someone coming to the door....Then there is NETFLIX, Utube, Xfinity, Hulu....Don't get me started.....EVERY TIME our attention is pulled away from an activity be it reading, cooking dinner, walking the dog, or talking to a friend in need, we slowy dilute our own joy of the experience and it takes time to get back to that place of PURE PEACE where the present moment has our undivided attention.... So what is the cure? Honestly, I do not know for sure but I will share with you a few things that I do when I notice my mind has completely wandered away from where I want it to be...WAIT! Come back!!! 1) Getting work done: SET A TIMMER for 45 minutes Turn off all notificaitons and get to work! You can do all your "checking" AFTER the timer goes off, take a 15 minute break then start all over again. I learned this from two different CEO's of fortune 500 companies, who are very productive and most likely a little busier than I am. IT WORKS. You will be CRAZY focused and PRODUCTIVE beyond your wildest dreams! You will wonder what else could have been going on all those other times you did not set a timer. 2) Yep, I am gonna say it, MEDITATE EVERY DAY, even if it is for 5 minutes. Try to BOOK END your day, 5-20 minutes in the morning and 10-20 every night. 3) make a DAILY GRATITUDE LIST: write down 10 things that you are grateful for that day. It doesn't have to be anything huge, it can be I am grateful for my perfect cup of coffee in the morning, for a warm bath at night, petting my dog, for getting that proposal done....etc....
Practice any or all these positive habits and see for yourself if you feel more present, content, joyful, productive and at peace. I know I do. Warmly, Jennie Sisters in Motion S Factor San Francisco
