Parents and Students,What a wild year it has been already. We wanted to take a moment of your time to remind and update you of our Covid-19 response, as Routt County has just moved into the level Orange of the Safer at Home Guidlines. We are staying informed and on top of protocols to keep our staff along with you and your families safe and healthy.- The capacity for us under Orange is 25% or 25 people. Hello Teachers!I wanted to check in and update you guys on things regarding COVID. We have had parents express concern for COVID and having in-person lessons due to recent restriction tightening and school shutdowns. For those of you who may not know, the high school has gone completely online but the K-8 has remained hybrid. According to the Safer At Home Guidlines, Routt county has moved to level Orange which means 25% capacity. Since we are mostly one-on-one here, we are well within those limits. We do not plan to go completely online until it is required of us. In the meantime, we are offering online lessons for those who are concerned but wish to continue. I will be sending an email to parents and students reminding/reassuring them that we want to continue in person and feel that it is safe to do so if we all follow certain procedures such as washing hands regularly, sanitizing surfaces after lessons, taking temps, provide hand sanitizer. So, please make a habit of using the sanitzers and rags in the rooms! I will be putting a thermometer and clipboard in the Teacher's Corner for you guys to take your temps and record on the clipboard before your lessons. Kevin Sport is a new-ish addition to our academy! He is a percussion instructor with us and has posted a blog on our website which you can read by clicking the button below!In the meantime, here is a short bio of Kevin.Percussionist/multi-instrumentalistKevin Sport worked for over 10 years as a professional musician in New York City. He was an accompanist for modern dance and movement classes in New York City, playing in studios including The Alvin Ailey School, The Martha Graham School and the J.K.O. School at American Ballet Theatre. Additionally, he played in the pit off-Broadway, founded the percussion duo Limbs, played in countless bands, and taught private lessons.He has worked as a musician in the dance department at Perry Mansfield since 2014. After his third summer there he made the decision to relocate to Steamboat full time to pursue his art in the ever-inspiring landscape of the Yampa Valley. Since residing full-time in Steamboat, Kevin has expanded his musical offerings to include yoga, breathwork, guided meditation and sound healing. Hello!As we begin filling our schedule for the 2020/2021 season we, the staff of the newly renamed Steamboat Academy of Music & Dance, wanted to make sure that you knew there is still very much a place for you here and that we would love to see you dancing at the studio again!With that said, we wanted to let you know of a new program our Artistic Director is implementing this year, called the Teacher's Assistant Program. This program will allow students 12 and older the opportunity to assist lead teachers with the lower level classes, to learn the ins/outs of how to successfully run a class, help the teacher with classroom control, and ultimately train you for a future position as a teacher, if you so choose. Dear Busy Parents,With the current school year format in mind, we have created a program here at Steamboat Academy of Music & Dance that you have the chance to take advantage of FIRST! We are offering this to our currently enrolled students before anyone else.Our Skool Dayz Program is designed exclusively for your Kindergarten to Middle School aged kids to have a central hub of learning during their online days! We are providing space for up to 15 students per online school day from 9am to 3pm, Monday through Thursday, to have supervised hours to do their online studies with occasional tutoring if needed. In this program, kids will have a choice of TWO classes per week to add to their learning experience. We are offering dance and private music lessons to choose from! Incuded will be occasional enrichment classes such as a singer/songwriter workshop or dance workshops as well! Also, Fridays there will be two School of Rock sessions (morning or afternoon) with a 15 kid maximum each.For tuition, you can pay by the month at $500 or you can get a $100 discount if you pay for the whole semester (Sept. 8th - Dec. 4th) in advance at $1400. Note, we will close in observance of the same holidays as the schools.There will be lockers provided for each student for each day if you wish to bring a lock. We ask that the students bring a change of clothes in case of emergencies, their own lunches, and most importantly, their own devices, i.e. laptops, tablets, to do their studies from. Our Music Fun Time Day Camp offers a great way for your child to get exposure to music. They can learn music theory without even realizing it!Music Fun Time camps are offered to children as young as 3 up to the age of 9 and are the only camps in the Yampa Valley to accept 3 and 4 year olds. Each day, campers will learn a new music concept and make a craft to help them remember it. We are happy to announce our third session of Music Theory Classes with Bill Kyrioglou!We are offering Music Theory classes 1 or 2 for students who want a better understanding of the language of music. Learn to read and write music while improving your listening skills!Music Theory 1 starts with the basics such as learning to read the staff, clefs, time signatures, note values and progress to reading tempo, articulation, note locations relative to your instrument or the piano and enharmonics!Music Theory 2 continues with learning different scales, intervals, key signatures Triads, more time signatures, Solfège and transposition, and much more!Each class is an hour long, once a week and the session will last 12 weeks. We are offering our Group Classes online for now. You will join the same way that you joined for your private lessons but there will be multiple people in this online classroom. The audio is one way so this means that one person will be able to speak at a time. Basically, individual instruction with an audience! It will be fun! Dear Students and/or Parents,We want to reach out during this time of concern to reassure each of you that we are closely monitoring the news and any updated information about the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. We have cleanliness protocals and emergency preparedness plans in place and are updating them accordingly to guide the Academy's response in the event of the spread of a highly infectious disease such as COVID-19.We are updating our staff on:-our newest nightly cleaning expectations-student and staff physical communication and instruction corrections-phases in preparation to serving our students and families the best we canWe are relying on you to make the right choice! If you feel that you are at risk, please stay home. Please remember that we offer online lessons as an alternative. We have tablets in each of our studios and will be using Zoom, Skype, or MarcoPolo in which you can use on a phone, tablet, or laptop.If you would like to utilize this alternative, you can have your normal lesson with us online, or a group makeup online with us. FROM THE CENTER OF DISEASE CONTROL WEBSITE:How can I protect myself?People can help protect themselves fro respiratory illness with everyday preventative actions:-Avoid close contact with people who are sick.-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.-Wash your hands often with soap and water for atleast 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains atleast 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.2. IF ARE SICK, TO KEEP FROM SPREADING RESPIRATORY ILLNESS TO OTHERS, YOU SHOULD:-Stay home when you are sick.-Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and throw your tissue in the trash.-More precautions can be found on the CDC website.3. WHAT STEAMBOAT ACADEMY OF MUSIC IS DOING TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE:-We have accesible antibactieral spray and tissues for each room.-We have plenty of soap and water.We are regularly disinfecting all common areas.In the meantime, let's make music!
