OK....Maybe it's not "the best" - but, compared to last year, I think we can all agree it's quite an improvement! They say the only constant in life, is change. As we continue to re-emerge from our pandemic lockdowns, we are also creating a new normal that might include the start of new traditions. As yogis, we practice focusing on the present moment, but at times like this, even I find myself thinking to the 4th of July celebrations of my childhood. There wasn't anything big or special about those celebrations. In fact, they were quite simple: swimming in our backyard pool, BBQ for dinner in the backyard, roasting marshmallows and then maybe even running after trying to catch fireflies. For years, my husband, Chris, and I would go to his cousin's annual "4th of July Open House", which always included time in a pool, lots of food and lots of people coming and going. Last year was the first time it was cancelled. This year we have invitations to two smaller BBQs over the weekend. And, to be honest, I'm really looking forward to these smaller get-togethers with friends and family. Sometimes the same can be true for our yoga practices. Sometimes we really do want that intense, athletic, Vinyasa practice and other times we just need a slow practice. And, of course, we can't forget that sometimes a yin yoga or restorative class can be just what we need. This month we'll be focusing on how to find ease in the things in our lives that require effort. Whether it's getting back to "normal" or finding time for your practice, let's try to find the ease. See you on the mat! ~Cyndy |
